Origin

Usually made from Capsicum cultivars; there is no single origin for all chilli flakes

History

Chilli flakes are a processed product, not a botanical species. This record uses Capsicum annuum because it is common, but commercial blends may contain different cultivars or species. Kew documents Capsicum as native from Mexico through tropical America and cultivated C. annuum var. annuum as a central-Mexican cultigen.
